Want to see the only person who can survive any car crash? Meet Graham.

The ultimate car crash survivor nicknamed “Graham”, a sculpture designed by Melbourne based artist Patricia Piccinini with the help of a trauma surgeon Christian Kenfield from Royal Melbourne hospital and crash investigator David Logan at Monash University’s accident research centre.

The Transport Accident Commission Victoria commissioned this project to develop this interactive sculpture and was later displayed at the State Library of Victoria to raise road safe awareness. This sculpture that depicts a human body, which could withstand car, crashes according to the TAC. This was an effort to convince drivers that their bodies are highly vulnerable to road accidents.

Chief executive of the TAC Joe Calafiore said “Cars have evolved a lot faster than humans and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our roads system to protect ourselves from our own mistakes.”

The name according to TAC has no secret and was only a working title that stuck, according to them he is just a normal Australian bloke

Logan suggests “ the truth is that cars have evolved a lot faster than we have” and “ our bodies are just not equipped to handle the forces in common crashes.” In a video.

Graham, the disturbingly lifelike model, who could survive a road crash has no neck which means he cannot break it. Other parts of his body involve a fatty, flat face which would protect his nose and ears. His knees are also designed to be bent in all directions. He also has thicker and tough skin.

He also has a thick strong shock absorbing skull, a chest having sacks of air that acts as airbags. He has reinforced bulbous knees.

Silicone, fibreglass , resin and human hair are used by Piccinini to make graham.

He can also be viewed online  and at the State library of Victoria until 8 August, after which he will travel around the country
